This is amazing. And while I never got to fisticuffs, I did get into loud arguments with many of the Bernie coalition (and the self professed Bernie Bros were the worst).
And indeed, we are seeing large swaths of that cohort make the relatively short hop to supporting MAGA and Trump. c.f. Ana Kasperian and Cenk at TYT among many others.
It all seem to be that they need to feel heard, and the MAGA influencers, are ready to stroke their fragile egos.
Great read but now there’s no need to punch anyone.
There are three executive orders (EO’s) that Trump has signed that are worthy of support by everyone across the moderate political spectrum
The first of these EO’s recognizes that open borders are politically unacceptable and that the age of mass migration is over. Importing millions of people who will work for next to nothing just to be here destroys the wages of working class Americans and drives up housing costs when we can't house our own citizens. People cannot overpopulate their home country and just expect to move to greener pastures. There are no more green pastures. They need to voluntarily reduce their own country's population to an environmentally sustainable level, stay home and work there to improve their living conditions.
His second important EO addresses the insanity of gender identity which denies the reality of human sexuality and results in men invading women’s sports, restrooms, locker rooms and prisons. Women need and are entitled to privacy from men. Even more diabolical is the mutilation of innocent children (many who would grow up gay) in pursuit of the impossible because you can’t change your birth sex.
Finally his EO that corrects the craziness of DEI which discriminates against whites, Asians and men in attempting to cure past discrimination against others is absolutely the correct approach. Who could believe that creating a new privileged class and a new discriminated against class would provide a solution to the problem? Not to mention that it’s clearly unconstitutional.
It would well serve both Democrats and independents to get behind these changes even as they choose to vigorously oppose other aspects of his agenda.
How can immigrants that work for next to nothing buy houses and therefore drive up housing prices? lol you’ve been manipulated into believing that nonsense. Housing prices are driven up by wealthy investors buying up a lot of property to either rent out or even let sit empty waiting for the value to go up. They want you to think it’s immigrants so you won’t pay attention to them.
DEI is in large part also helping white people, so how can it discriminate against them when it’s helping them?
I’m not going to argue with you about gender and sex because you’re so incredibly clueless around that, it’s a lost cause. You have clearly failed biology class, which does drive the point that it’s mostly the uneducated who are easily manipulated into voting against themselves.
Iris: Do illegal immigrants live in rental housing? Then their demand must help drive up rents. It’s Economics 101. DEI doesn’t help white men or Asians. It intentionally discriminates against them by lowering standards for those who were discriminated against in the past. As to biology? There are only two sexes. Wearing a dress or lipstick doesn’t make a man a woman or vice versa. The points you are trying to make are just too stupid to be believed. Oh, and read this.
Undocumented immigrants live with many in one house rented by a documented person, they cannot rent without documents.
DEI DOES help white men and Asian men because it ALSO helps poor people, disabled people, older people, LGBTQ, no matter what the color of their skin, and so random you throw Asian men in there as they are BIPOC and thus also helped. The only people that MIGHT not be helped more than they ALREADY have a benefit is rich able straight young white men.
Again, stop letting yourself be manipulated by rich white men who want you to fight poor people instead of the true culprit: them.
I've never understood how the members of the Bernie Cult manage to reconcile their supposed concern for the plight of the underprivileged with their eagerness to throw their votes away rather than make the slightest of policy/candidate compromises—the less fortunate be damned.(And throwing one's vote away is, of course, an act of obnoxious privilege in and of itself.)
They all run on a sense of fuck you. Usually against the political system but ultimately against anyone they see as a representative of power structures. Sanders and Trump ran on fuck you though i’d argue Sanders’ fanbase embraced that FU logic more than he did. So when he lost, the only figure running on that theme was Orange Anti-Christ. And that allows them to reconcile the anti-establishment vibes with policies that supposedly go against everything they believe in.
Absolutely, and that was a big part of why I was less than surprised to see my native greater Youngstown go from strongly Democratic to full MAGA. Party labels aside, Donald Trump is a continuation of the politics and persona of Jim Traficant—even down to the asinine hairdo(n't)!
I've never met anyone so fanatically devoted to Bernie that he'd stalk someone in public, but I have encountered Bernie fanatics online and met one during the Nevada caucus one year that had what I can only describe as "fire" in his eyes. (It was like looking into the eyes of a cult member.)
If ever there were a left MAGA, Bernie supporters/DSA/Justice Dems/Sunrise/whatever would come pretty damn close. Even as they outwardly claim to be all for women's rights and civil rights, when they believe no one else is listening, they can be as sexist and racist as any red-blooded Trump supporter.
They've been threatening to take over the Democratic Party...again. They're threatening to primary every Democratic elected official that dares step a toenail out of line or say the wrong thing. I'm frankly despondent at what's happening.
I’ve always been amazed at Bernie bros who take the my way or the highway approach. One of Sanders’ best qualities over the years has been his willingness to recognize that sometimes it’s better to compromise to get half a loaf than rigidly “stick to his guns” and get nothing at all. That’s been his pattern since he first got involved in local politics in Vermont.
I’m happy that Sanders is a Senator (I’m not a resident of Vermont). He challenges society to make difficult changes. But that doesn’t mean he would have been a great president. For a president to be successful he needs a supporting constituency of well over 50%. He has never had that level of support from Democrats nationally let alone from Republicans and Independents. How would he ever get anything through Congress?
The irony is that, for all her flaws, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has gained a level of acceptance amongst mainstream Democratic voters that Sanders never achieved. And she’s probably the only progressive standout from Sanders’ movement to actually be successful in the political system while demonstrating an anti-Trump energy voters seem to like. But those same angry Sanders voters probably hate that she worked with the party at all.
It's a good story but zoom out a bit and you kind of sound like you're just in a race to the bottom to blame the other mini-side for kicking more voters out of the party. Bernie pretty consistently trumpets on about "the working class." Leftists went on about defunding the police, Columbus statues and regulating gender pronouns, before dropping all that and going all in on Palestine. Educated center libs also went on about defunding the police, Columbus statues and regulating gender pronouns. Anti-racism came from leftist thinking, but #MeToo and subsequent cancel culture came from educated rich white women. Canceling Dave Chappelle, which we had to do for some reason, was a group effort. Like you can't just act like center libs aren't doing anti-working class dumb shit of their own accord too.
That Joe Rogan liked Bernie Sanders tells you everything you need to know.
The Ron Paul-to-Bernie pipeline was a real thing too and I bet it’s a lot of the same guys. It’s just a bunch of arsonists and they latch on to whatever flavor of the week wants to burn it all down.

The guy I punched supported none of those things.

The truth. They are a complement to MAGA, fighting hand in hand to destroy democrats. We’ve been too accepting for too long.

Excellent piece
You did the right thing
