Thank you for pointing this out - it is really important and needs to be explored more - the idea that people were more annoyed by inflation than actually hurt by it. Not only was consumption exploding, including for luxury goods, but I knew a LOT of people 2021-2023 who either went part time, or tried as hard as they could to go part time. Of course suggesting that people really weren't so cash strapped. Ultimately I think there was a social panic around inflation, an idea that more money would solve people's new found social problems 2020-present, and as you pointed out, a failure to conceptualize that inflation would eventually level off and be countered by higher wages.

One reason I am probably a lousy political commentator is despite myself being on the autism spectrum even when I was a kid, I was never into playing video games and really looked down on kids who played them(I am 41). I do think video game culture and outright addiction to video games plays an important part of young male culture at the moment and this probably increased considerably during Covid.

At the High School I went to, they now have a video game club which kind of disgusts me(Enough that I actually complained to the school board). I feel like back in my day all these kids would have been strongly encouraged to participate in a sport like cross country, track, or swimming like I was.

I too like to sit back and marvel at the passage of time. I think we should be training the next generation to be qualified switchboard operators. They waste too much time on these "computers" and "the internet" they'll be using every day at their jobs (even in the trades) or to navigate modern society. Me and my dad used to play catch in backyard before woke.
