The “woke” era is over.

I think it’s safe to say that now.

It seems like every day there’s something the Democratic Party does that leads to someone being outraged, screaming “this is why they lose” over and over again like a carnival barker. Whether it’s meeting in a hotel to go over research into male voters, or not adequating calling out random people on the internet who joke about wanting to give all boys vasectomies that can only be reversed with permission from a woman, or some activist group praising the guy who murdered two Israeli embassy officials, to the latest Jake Tapper or Bill Maher screed about Democrats alienating men, it feels like it’s always March 15th in the Theatre of Pompey lately, and the Democratic Party is Caesar fighting off the daggers.

Over the weekend, I spent some time with what the internet terms “normie Democrats.” The type of middle-class, middle-aged liberal who hates Trump, but always has something to complain about with Democrats and it struck me how many of them seemed to be growing tired of the “Democrats suck at everything,” narrative that some of them even contributed to earlier this year.

The recent Jake Tapper/Alex Thompson book, Original Sin, which documents Joe Biden’s mental state during the last year and a half of his presidency and his decision to run for a second term, appeared to be the last straw for some of these Democrats. Particularly annoying to them has been Tapper’s press tour, during which he has criticized Democrats and the Biden family for reasons unrelated to the book's topic.

All this led one person this weekend to ask me, “Why does it seem like everyone is ganging up on the Democrats, meanwhile, Trump is tearing the country apart?” and another to suggest the entire controversy was just a publicity stunt and money-making effort by Tapper, Thompson, and CNN.

They want to know how we got here.
