Contrary to popular belief, most realtors don’t make six figures, at least not in the first few years. The pandemic set me back several years, and since 2019, my average annual income has been barely above minimum wage. Medicaid was a lifesaver.

The Big Beautiful Bill may take an axe to that program. It may take away key subsidies and funding I relied on to pay for the medication to control my blood pressure, trips to the skin doctor to ensure suspicious moles don’t become melanoma, and the colonoscopy I underwent in January that detected a polyp that could have become cancer.

I say “might” because I will likely make enough money this year to buy a plan on the healthcare exchange and be off Medicaid by the time the cuts take effect, which is fine for me, but not for the millions of other people like me who aren’t having a great year financially, and who don’t have the privledge to find a job with good benefits easily or spent years building a business like me. Up to 17 million people may lose healthcare by the end of the next decade, completely undoing the progress made since the Affordable Care Act was enacted 15 years ago toward achieving universal coverage.

It seems shocking that they would do this, but it shouldn’t be. MAGA is a movement hell bent on revenge against half of America who forced them to endure a black president, rainbow flags, they/them pronouns, pressing 1 for English, and the humiliation of having to hear women say “no.” MAGA is a murder-suicide plot, aiming to punish the country they believed wronged them, even if they hurt themselves in the process.
